Why a gift Bible needs tabs

Giving someone a Bible is an easy thing to buy and a hard thing to give. It arrives as twelve hundred pages of small type, and the person you gave it to opens it at three in the morning, on the worst night of the year, with no idea where to look. Most gift Bibles are never opened twice.

  1. It starts with the person, not the book

Write one sentence about who it is for and what they are carrying. A mother nursing her sister. A friend who has stopped sleeping. The app gathers verses for that, grouped into topics you can argue with, add to and reorder until they sound like something you would actually say.

  2. Then it prints the part that matters

A title page with your message. A contents page. Tabs you glue to the page edges so Healing, Peace and Loved are findable by thumb. Verse lists by topic, and tip-in cards for the front. Any AirPrint printer, or save it as a PDF and take it somewhere else. Card stock holds the tabs best.

  3. Emergency numbers

One printed page of references for the nights that need them, so the book opens to the right place when nobody can think straight enough to search. It is the page people come back to, and the reason a tabbed Bible gets opened a second time.

  4. Nothing leaves your phone

The app makes no network requests at all. No account, no analytics, no servers of mine, nothing collected. What you write about someone you love is not something that should travel, so it does not. Two wordings are included, both public domain: the World English Bible and the King James Version.

A Bible they can open on the worst night, at the right page.

Who it is for

Anyone giving a Bible and wanting it used rather than shelved: for a parent in hospital, a friend in grief, a godchild, a wedding, a leaving gift. You need an iPhone and a printer, and about twenty minutes.
